Media Release
The statement below can be attributed to Jackie Edmond, chief executive Family Planning.
Family Planning welcomes the health sector reforms announced today, in particular the focus on public health and primary care, equitable provision of services and the establishment of a Māori Health Authority.
As a national service we understand balancing the needs of local communities with national standards and policies which promote consistency in the way services are delivered.
We welcome a partnership model to commissioning of services as expressed in the establishment of the Māori Health Authority. Māori health outcomes, including sexual and reproductive health outcomes, have been inequitable for far too long.
We will continue to work constructively towards the implementation of the reforms.
