Scabies

Scabies can be spread by sexual contact.  This page outlines the symptoms and treatment for scabies.

What is it?

Scabies is caused by small mites that burrow into the skin and cause inflammation and irritation.

How do you get it?

You can get scabies through close body contact, sometimes during sex. The mites can spread through infected bedding and clothing.

What are the symptoms?

Symptoms can include:

  • itching that is worse at night
  • a rash.

How is it treated?

Scabies is treated by applying a special lotion, cream or ointment to the infected area. Clothing and bedding should be washed.

Will it impact my partner/s?

Recent partners may be infected.
