Our programmes

We provide relationships and sexuality education programmes that are age and ability appropriate.

Does Family Planning provide sexuality education programmes?

Yes, we provide relationships and sexuality programmes in alternative education, teenage parent groups, independent training organisations, schools and through community groups and agencies.

We also offer in-school teacher training and updates, support with policy and programme development, and tools for teaching and assessment.

School-based programmes are run alongside classroom teachers, to help them develop the confidence and skills to be able to deliver the programmes into the future.

Does the programme meet the curriculum?

Our sessions with young people at schools are designed to meet the requirements of the Health and Physical Education Strand of The New Zealand Curriculum.

Who is the programme for?

We focus the sexuality education sessions on helping young people to develop key competencies in:

  • thinking
  • using language
  • symbols and texts
  • relating to others
  • managing self
  • participating and contributing.

Our service provides age and ability appropriate sessions for special needs students, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and international students.

Our sexuality education/mātauranga hōkakatanga  services are tailored to meet the requirements of young people and schools.

This can include:

  • student-centred, interactive approaches
  • parent education
  • consultation meetings with Boards of Trustees and parents
  • advice on resources
  • assistance with policy development
  • programme development and ongoing support
  • teacher training
